77 Return For Main Event Day 2; Hogyun Kang Leads The Pack

Hustle and bustle at the inaugural Gods of Poker Taipei with The Titan Assembly wrapping up Day 8 at the CTP Asia Poker Arena. Under the spotlight was the crown jewel Main Event which breached its guarantee with 556 total entries across five flights. 

The next stage of the race gets underway on Friday, January 16 with 77 players returning led by Korea's Hogyun Kang who topped Flight E with a towering 2,650,000 in chips. 

Kang's rise happened in two hands. He first eliminated Chia Hsiang Ko on a flip with pocket tens over ace-king then claimed a big pot against Eng Loong Choi with trips aces.

The flight ended with Choi crashing out on pocket jacks dominated by Hao Lin's pocket aces.

Andy Tsai

At the earlier heat, Flight D, famous Taiwanese vlogger Andy Tsai (Qing Yu Cai) topped the counts with a stack of 2,245,000 placing him fourth in the overall Day 2 pecking order. 

While Tsai's ascent was quiet and steady, Billy Alfonso tore up players left and right to become the first to reach 2M in chips. One of his most stunning captured hands was a sick bluff against Jinsoo Kim. Alfonso three-bet pushed with just a flush draw on the river that resulted in Kim using all of his remaining time-banks. 

Flight D concluded with Kazuki Okamoto eliminated by Alfonso with a runner-runner straight over a set.

The final 77 players are all guaranteed a minimum cash prize of NT$ 77,200 while for the champion is due to pocket a sweet NT$ 4,323,180 (~US$ 136,900).

Day 8 Winners

Ma. Arlene Rivera

The next batch of winners are in and giving Martijn Gerrits a run for the most number of trophies is Ma. Arlene Rivera who picked up her fourth Aphrodite Mirror trophy in as many days. Rivera was also joined by Yun Lam Kevin Choi and Szu Wei Chiu, both players now with their second title this series. 

Currently leading the Player of the Series race is Gerrits with 11 cashes, five of which were victories.
