Asakawa Yuya Wins Mini Main; Costiniano, Tasman, Lee, Feng Shine At The Sides

With the Main Event now in the books, let's jump back to the games that ran side by side at the Gods of Poker Taipei: The Titan Assembly. Lighting up the CTP Asia Poker Arena on Day 9 and Day 10 were a packed slate of side events, where fresh champions emerged, trophies continued to disappear from the shelves, and familiar faces added yet more hardware to already impressive series runs.

Here are the highlights.

Asakawa Yuya Wins The GOP x RPT Mini Main

Japan’s Asakawa Yuya pulled off a double strike by conquering the GOP x RPT Mini Main to clutch not one but two trophies - the Silver Spartan and the one-of-a-kind Royal Tiger trophy. Along with the double hardware, Yuya was awarded NT$ 768,580 (~US$ 24,300) top prize and the RPT Championship II Main Event package valued at US$ 2,000. 

The GOP x RPT Mini Main drew 293 runners across four flights with 41 players locking up a piece of the boosted NT$ 3,797,280 (~US$ 120,000) prize pool. The title came down between Yuya and Philippine's Elmer Kalaquian with the latter hunting down his second series title. In the end, it was not to be as Yuya came from behind, bringing down Kalaquian's towers.

Day 9 and Day 10 Winners

With the Cronus Structure accelerating play and wrapping events earlier than usual, players were free to hop from one side event to the next well before day’s end. The ripple effect has been a surge of multi-trophy runs, with several players stacking titles - sometimes even on the same day.

John Niko Costiniano

The latest to pull off the feat was John Niko Costiniano, who struck twice on Day 9 to add two trophies to his GOP haul in a single day. 

Other multi-trophy winners were Kelly Tasman and Li Chih Feng for their third series wins and Shun Hei Lee with back-to-back wins on Day 9 and 10.

At the Player of the Series race, Martijn Gerrits has a comfortable lead with 22,410 points and Li Chih Feng has now taken over second rank after his win. Rounding out the top three is Sung Jin Yun.
