At 12.30 p.m. local time, 12 players out of a field of 383 entries return to their seats inside of the Grand Ballroom at the City of Dreams Manila Luxury Hotel Resort & Casino in Metro Manila amid a downpour of rain in the capital of the Philippines. And it will be raining money today for the dozen finalists in the flagship event of The Arena of Champions in the fifth edition of the Gods of Poker live series.
The PHP 30 million guarantee was missed by a mere 17 entries to give all 54 players in the money additional value and the last 12 hopefuls have all locked up at least PHP 433,200 for their efforts. Reaching the nine-handed final table comes with a payday of PHP 648,300 and the winner takes home the beautiful golden gauntlet trophy and top prize of PHP 6,304,500. To give you an idea, that equals approximately $101,322.
Leading the way is none other than Lester Edoc who is one of the most well-known players here in the Philippines. He bagged up a monster stack of 10,885,000 yesterday and is followed by Marc Rivera (9,020,000) as well as Dutchman and local resident Joris Michl (7,140,000).
The trio atop is incredibly deep with more than 70 big blinds each with the blinds set to recommence in level 17 at 50,000-100,000/100,000. Several players are staring at the abyss with four of them at fewer than 14 big blinds.
Dakota Anderson (5,620,000) is the only player from abroad still in contention whereas Dmitrii Belikov (2,325,000) and Aleksei Zhukov (1,715,000) hail from Russia but likely reside in Asia as well.
